Heart disease and strokes are the first and fourth leading causes of death in the United States. Heart disease is responsible for 1 of every 3 deaths in the country. Million Hearts™ is a national initiative that has set an ambitious goal to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes by 2017. The impact will be even greater over time. The Foundation for Recovery (FFR) is proud to partner with the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) and the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) on the Million Hearts™ initiative. FFR will reach out to the recovery community because of the populations increased risk of heart attack and stroke. The Foundation for Recovery will help SAMHSA and HHS to prevent 1 million heart attacks and strokes through the following programs and activities:
- Offer a series of wellness webinars
- Provide wellness information through a blog, newsletter, and social media
- Host two wellness fairs
- Produce health and wellness fact sheets
- Check back frequently for updated and new information.
