2017 Gala for Recovery Research and Education Awardee: Jeff Horn

Born in Northern California, Jeff Horn and his family moved to Southern Nevada in 1981. A person with 29 years in long-term recovery Jeff has spent most of his adult life working with in the Clark County School System.

Principal of Green Valley High School for eleven years, Jeff was responsible for the implementation of a random drug-testing program for athletes, one of the first of its type in the Nation. This drug treating program has since organically expanded into other High School populations at the request of parents. It is and remains a huge success.

With a recent promotion to a Clark county School District School Associate Superintendent,  Jeff has played an integral part in the development, approval and implementation of the first Recovery High School in the State. This school is scheduled to open for Southern Nevada Students in September, 2017.

Foundation for Recovery would like to thank Jeff for his ongoing commitment to the prevention and recovery community within the adolescent population.  In his spare time, Jeff enjoys spending time with his wife and two children.

Person-Directed Recovery

Person-centered recovery is directed, as much as possible by the person – including decisions about who should be included in the process.  The planning identifies just a few small, but meaningful, short-term changes that the individual can focus on helping to reduce some of the barriers or challenges moving forward.  Person centered care should be central to all recovery frameworks.
