Spending time in nature as well as getting regular exercise can be very beneficial for supporting one’s recovery. The fall season is the perfect time to socialize outdoors and recharge with nature. Recovery from substance use disorder or mental health challenges is more than abstinence. It requires a holistic approach that includes therapy, medical care, building social connections, and making healthy lifestyle changes. Being active outdoors reduces depression and stress. It improves one’s sleep and energy and contributes to the overall sense of wellbeing.

Virtual Gratitude & Self-Care Workshop

This is a FREE event and space is limited.

Could you use a little self-care this month? Self-Care is always important but even more crucial in the time of coronavirus. It can feel pretty overwhelming and stressful, and this workshop will offer several self-care activities that you can use in the safety of your home to keep your recovery strong. It will consist of steps to achieve a self-care mindset through mindfulness practice, self-compassion exercise, gratitude journaling, writing notes to self, and vision board ideas.

Virtual Movie Night, “On Life’s Terms”

This is a FREE event and space is limited.

“On Life’s Terms: Mothers in Recovery” (2014) is a documentary film by Sheila Ganz. Driven by the desire for custody of their children, five mothers struggle to overcome substance use disorders in a gender-responsive treatment program. Their intimate story reveals experiences with domestic violence, prostitution, incarceration, and complex intergenerational relations. “On Life’s Terms: Mothers in Recovery” interweaves women’s three-year journey to self-sufficiency and newfound pride with drug laws that impact mother and child, and will inspire hope for recovery. This documentary film will reduce the stigma by addressing the more significant issues that Treatment Works and Family Preservation is Prevention, which breaks the cycle of addiction, abuse, and poverty.

This film shows that people can rewrite the toxic stories they tell themselves. Directed by Frances Causey in 2019, an Emmy award-winning documentary filmmaker and journalist with 15 years’ experience as a Senior Producer at CNN, the movie features top experts in mental health along with participants sharing their stories.
