2017 Gala for Recovery Research & Education Awardee: Jennifer Gratzke

Working for the Southern Nevada Health District as a Disease Investigator Intervention Specialist, Jenny is a strong believer in community engagement and that the issues surrounding disease needs to be addressed as a whole community.

Throughout her career she has worked in the Office of Epidemiology and Disease surveillance as part of a team to promote harm reduction and eliminate HIV, STD`s and HCV.

An integral and driving force of the newly formed Southern Nevada Harm Reduction Alliance, Jenny engages community providers who are dedicated to reducing stigma and overdoses regardless of a person’s circumstances.

Her participation with Trac-B Exchange and the newly implemented needle exchange program in Southern Nevada has proved to be so well organized and thoughtfully provided, that Las Vegas is now considered to have the gold standard service  model for the entire country.

Jenny has been a Las Vegas resident for more then 10 years

Person-Directed Recovery

Person-centered recovery is directed, as much as possible by the person – including decisions about who should be included in the process.  The planning identifies just a few small, but meaningful, short-term changes that the individual can focus on helping to reduce some of the barriers or challenges moving forward.  Person centered care should be central to all recovery frameworks.
